What is a LAMDA exam?
LAMDA (the London Academy of Dramatic Art) is one of the oldest drama schools in England. LAMDA has been offering Drama exams since 1880 and has a fantastic reputation.
A LAMDA exam is a speech and drama exam, equivalent to a music grade. Exams can be taken in Acting (solo, duo and combined), Speaking Verse and Prose, Devising, Speaking in Public and many other disciplines.
Exams are graded from entry level up to level eight, and are marked on their interpretation, technique and knowledge. 50% and above is a Pass, 65% is a Pass with Merit and 80% a Pass with Distinction. The higher grades have UCAS points (for university entry) attached to them and are equivalent to an AS or A-Level.
Who are LAMDA exams for?
• Children aged four to adults
• Actors who want to work on their audition technique
• Drama students or actors who want to work on their acting technique
• Those who want to improve their pronunciation, knowledge of texts or presentations skills
• Teenagers aiming to gain UCAS points to help with university applications
• Those who enjoy performing
I teach students to pass exams mainly in Acting, Verse and Prose and Speaking in Public. I can also help students pass exams in Reading for Performance, Devising and the many other exams that LAMDA offer.
I have a 100% pass rate, and tailor all of my lessons to the individual student's abilities and skills.
You can take your LAMDA exam at a Public Centre, or I also run my own Private Centre at Cobbett Hub in Southampton twice a year. I organise all the admin for my students entering their exams. Exam fees are payable to LAMDA and vary depending on the grade you are taking (approx £25-£85).
