Adult Acting Classes
UP to Something Acting Troupe
Peartree Church Hall
Are you interested in drama and performance? Whether you’re a keen amateur, a total beginner, or a professional actor looking for further training, our adult drama class has something for everyone, in a fun and supportive weekly session.
Explore drama and performance and meet like-minded people at a sociable and enjoyable class.
The class takes place at Pear Tree Church Hall in Bitterne Park, Southampton.
Over the coming weeks we are looking at classic plays and will be acting out short scenes from them. This will allow us to look at acting techniques more closely and how styles of plays affect acting choices. In later weeks there will be the option to pick a favourite and work on it in more detail, before auditions for The Village Fate, this years play for the One Act Play Festival.
Antigone & Greek Theatre
A classic tragedy, with an excellent storyline. Greek Theatre was performed very differently to modern plays, in large amphitheatres. A great opportunity to explore classical acting and how to put a modern spin on an ancient text.
Macbeth & Shakespeare
Shakespeare's texts can be a little daunting. In this class we will be looking at some techniques to understand and perform parts of one of the greatest Shakespeare texts - Macbeth.
Blood Wedding & Lorca
Moving across to a Spanish playwright - Lorca. His plays are very different, quite poetic but with meaty challenges for actors. Learn about a different style of performance and about 'duende', a quality needed to perform with authenticity.
Comedy Performance Rehearsal
Run by the class, this week is for those rehearsing for the Comedy event in November - all welcome!
The Servant of Two Masters & Commedia
Have you heard of One Man, Two Guvnors? That is based on this comedic play, with characters stemming from Commedia de'll arte. Heighted physicality, absurdity and comic timing are the focus of this class.
Screen Acting Masterclass - TBC - Please notes this class is £15 for the session.
Actor Duncan McInnes leads a Screen Acting Masterclass.
Look Back in Anger & Kitchen Sink Theatre
This play completely changed UK theatre, and gave us the phrase 'kitchen sink drama'. A naturalistic play with gritty characters and intricate emotions.
This fantastically dramatic play, with some great songs provides a challenge for actors performing a character from 5 years old to 35 years old. A favourite play of mine!
